Lothar and the Hand People - Presenting
Hands down on of the best band names of the 60's and though they may only be remembered in passing, this reissue documents some of their best moments. Lothar was actually the name of the band's
Theremin, which was used fairly often on tracks that bear a resemblance to the Mothers' style. Most of the "psychedelic electronic effects" that rear up on Presenting are used as icing rather than incorporated as say, the United State of America. The rest of the album is a bit more laid back and tuneful and there are certainly some choice cuts on this debut album. Also included are a handful of early singles which follow more of the pastoral psych style and are a very welcome addition to the package, documenting the band's early evolution. The band made a second stab with Space Hymn which garnered a little bit more attention before splitting. Still this one stands as, if nothing else an interesting listen and very "60's" leaning album.
